FTPB News n°5 - 15 February 2007

In January and February, a lot of companies and other organisations define their priorities for the 12 months ahead. This includes making choices regarding public-relations operations in the coming year and finalising budgets. Usually, by early March, we, at FTPB, have a clearer idea of what the March-to-June and the September-to-November periods have in store for us — given the fact the periods in between tend, in practice, to be nullified by holidays.

Having said all that, one project we are extremely pleased about is being finalised and promises to be very interesting for all concerned: in close co-operation with (and with the support of) UBIFRANCE (our parent-organisation in France), the Trade Section of the French Embassy in London (or Mission Economique), and the Invest in France Agency (in charge of international investments  and the promotion of inward investment), FTPB has successfully prepared the ground for the publication, in late April of this year, of a Supplement devoted to the best of France’s information-technology sector.

The Supplement will be researched, written and published by leading British IT magazine Information Age, which, no doubt, most of you have heard of. Half a dozen French regional authorities are backing the project (from Normandy in the north-west of the country to Provence in the south-east, and from Paris & Ile-de-France to Midi-Pyrénées in the south-west).

Within each region, the Supplement will give the opportunity to established players of the French IT industry as well as start-ups to present what they do. It fits in with the aim of promoting the high-technology hubs set up with the backing of the French government across the country. (They are known in French as pôles de compétitivité, as you may well be aware already.) We also have a range of IT companies — large and small — that have come on board, which should be featured in the Supplement.

Together with the Invest in France Agency, and with our support, the French regions involved are going to organise a press trip for the Information Age journalists tasked with researching the content of the France IT Supplement, so that they will have the opportunity to meet many of the executives involved in situ.

FTPB, together with our institutional partners, will most probably look into having another industry-specific supplement put together in collaboration with a specialist British magazine at a later stage in 2007, or else in the first half of 2008. It will be about another industry, next time, where French technology and know-how also deserve to be given that little bit of extra media coverage that it is not always easy to secure otherwise. I will keep you informed of course.

Other large-scale projects are in the pipeline, as far as the press bureau is concerned. The region of Corsica, for instance — with the help of UBIFRANCE (including FTPB), the Trade Section of the French Embassy, and the Franco-British Chamber of Commerce (CCFGB) — is going to be in the news in the coming months.

Indeed, the Corsican regional authorities (with the active support of the local chambers of commerce) are very keen to get traditional and high-quality Corsican food products and wine better known outside the region — especially in Britain. In due course, this should lead to a press trip that the press bureau will organise on behalf of our Corsican partners to this beautiful and fascinating island-region.

We expect other press trips to come up, but it is too early for me to give any specifics; we will get in touch with you as soon as topics, dates, blueprints, etc. have been finalised with our partner-organisations.

Finally, if you go to our dedicated website (www.ftpb.co.uk), you will see that we are expanding its content on an ongoing basis. We have recently added a Special Reports section that gives you sectorial information (in French and/or in English) on a range of industries — get in touch with us if you want further details about any of those.

I hope you will enjoy reading the February edition of FTPB News, and I also hope 2007 has started in positive and productive fashion for all the readers of this bulletin. The next edition of FTPB News should come out round mid-April.
