FTPB News n°3 - 19 September 2006

July and August are traditionally quieter at FTPB — and going away for three to four weeks on a family holiday in August remains a highlight of the year in France, to the point where some companies shut down for the summer recess.

Everyone is now back in the office and we hope you all had a pleasant and relaxing break, if you did go away. The last four months of the year promise to be very busy here at FTPB, if only because we have three press trips in the pipeline, all of them due to take place in October and November.

The first one will take three British journalists to Nice and Marseille in October and concerns the electronics industry — the hi-tech park of Sophia Antipolis is well known in this respect and concentrates many of France ’s (and Europe ’s) leading technology companies.

The second press trip, also in October, will take a truly pan-European delegation of journalists — two British, one Belgian, one Danish and two German — to South-Eastern France in the field of ceramics. The stress will be on quality and traditional earthenware products, and on the century-old crafts involved in making them.

Finally, the third press trip, in November, will take another delegation of journalists from all over Europe — including British ones — to Aeromart 2006 in Toulouse , in South-Western France (the 6th event of its kind devoted to the aerospace industry).

But we, at FTPB, are getting help, with the arrival of two Editorial Assistants, as the photo accompanying this Bulletin illustrates: Beatriz Juarez Morate, who comes from Madrid (in Spain) is going to be with us for three months, and Hannah Meloul, who comes from Nice (in France) is going to stay with us until early June 2007.

This expanded FTPB team will enable us to work better and more closely with the press and with our partners. And, if you want to celebrate the Entente Cordiale, I suggest you attend the London-Paris Festival (8-9 October - http://www.iq2londonparisfestival.com), which promises to be exciting and informative all at once.

I hope you enjoy this third issue of FTPB News, the news bulletin of the French Technology Press Bureau in London . The next issue, which will be the last one of the year, will come out in late November.

Philip Jolly , Managing Director of FTPB
