UBIFRANCE UK News n° 21 - 15 April 2010
|
||
|
We have covered topics ranging from environmental issues and new forms of energy to fashion and design, as well as logistics, packaging and music downloads. Information technology is well represented in this bulletin (from IT security to M2M solutions) and, in case this has made you hungry (for more) and/or thirsty, there are also stories on food & drink (including champagne). Last but not least, equine ultrasound technology has not been forgotten a little bit of a favourite of mine, I must say, even though I do not own a horse, alas.
There were many trade shows in February and March, and we assisted in the promotion of more than one successful French Pavilion as a result, be it at PURE (14 to 16 February), Ecobuild (2 to 4 March), or Oceanology (9 to 11 March). In all these industries fashion accessories, sustainable construction and marine technology French companies and entrepreneurs have a lot to offer, as their British counterparts are fully aware.
Our colleagues within the sectorial departments of the French Trade Commission were also very busy with many exciting B2B events, several of which were held at the French Ambassador’s Residence, in Central London, courtesy of Mr Maurice Gourdault-Montagne. Indeed, the French Ambassador to the United Kingdom has been keen to support and promote the activities of the French Trade Commission, making his official residence available as often as possible for the staging of such trade events.
Among the press releases we have listed below, you will find references to the Cercle Rive Droite de Grands Vins de Bordeaux event that was held at the Ambassador’s Residence on 4 March, but also the French Design Forum (on 23 March) and the Speciality Foods Day (on 25 March). In each case, the national and the trade press, including specialist writers and freelance journalists, were invited by the press bureau, as part of our work to help publicise the achievements of French creators, designers, winegrowers, entrepreneurs, and others.
To go back to the Cercle Rive Droite event, you can now say that you will have first read in this newsletter about the Bordeaux wine 2009 vintage, and how outstanding it is set to be, since I described it as “expected to be first-class” in the February edition of UBIFRANCE UK News. Most British wine commentators and experts have in fact confirmed this in the past few weeks. The excitement is reaching fever pitch, and a consensus is clearly emerging to the effect that 2009 is set to be a once-in-a-lifetime millésime.
More exciting events are planned for the coming weeks, as you will see below. Technology will be at the forefront with two trade shows Infosecurity and Internet World which will be held concurrently, between 27 and 29 April. Strong French Pavilions will enable many innovative French SMEs to showcase their products and services in these fields.
The French Trade Commission is not called French for nothing, however, and champagne is certainly part of the mystique of the country. On 22 April, as part of our Champagnes de Vignerons event, authentic and quality champagne produced by local wine-growers and co-operatives will be in the limelight at a prestigious London venue.
If you like champagne and you write about the liquid, you are more than welcome, and you should get in touch with Kate Ambler, Press Officer, who, herself, never fails to do her bit in order to support France’s champagne production. If, however, you like champagne but do not write about it, I am afraid we cannot have you there. If you don’t like champagne, sadly, there is not much I can do for you at this juncture.
Certain industries have an aura that others may not possess, to the lay person at any rate, but, as some philosopher must have said, equine ultrasound technology can hold as much romantic excitement as there are bubbles in a glass of champagne, if only you know how to approach the subject matter.
On this note, I shall conclude the April instalment of our bulletin and wish you well, now that spring is back.
