FTPB News n°2 - 19 June 2006

The last two months have been hectic here at FTPB, since we have had the annual Seminar of the UBIFRANCE press bureaux, and two press trips have taken place — all this apart from our regular activity, with many interesting press releases sent out to a range of publications across several sectors. (See our selection, below.)

The annual Seminar of the UBIFRANCE press bureaux takes place each year in Paris , and gives us the opportunity to meet our colleagues in head-office and counterparts in other press bureaux. The one-week event includes three days of meetings with French client companies, which are always very productive.

For those of you who may not be familiar with UBIFRANCE, our parent-organisation, we have a total of 13 press offices around the world. From London , at FTPB, we cover not only the British and Irish markets, but also Nordic countries and the Netherlands . The other press bureaux send out press releases in the local language and are located in Mexico (Mexico City), Brazil (São Paolo), Germany (Düsseldorf), Spain (Madrid), Italy (Milan), Poland (Warsaw), Egypt (Cairo), Japan (Tokyo), and China (Hong Kong and Beijing), as well as Thailand (Bangkok). The press office in the USA ( Chicago ) works in English, obviously.

Some press bureaux cover only one country (e.g.: Italy from Milan ), whereas others cover several (e.g.: Germany, Austria and the German-speaking part of Switzerland from Düsseldorf). So, we may be able to help you with, say, attendance at a trade show in Germany or in Hong Kong, if you let us know ahead of time — at the very least, we will be happy to give you the contact details of our colleagues in that other country.

The two press trips have been very successful, and both were in highly topical areas. The first one was in the field of food security and hygiene (in mid-May), and the second one in renewable energies, including wind power and biomass (in early June). In each case, Kate Ambler, FTPB’s Press Officer, took a group of three to four British journalists around France over a period of three to four days, with many visits included, all expenses paid. We are aware that three to four days can be a bit long for many journalists, so we intend to organise slightly shorter press trips in the future — ideally two days. If you want details of the next press trip(s), have a look at our website, www.ftpb.co.uk

I hope you enjoy this second issue of FTPB News, the news bulletin of the French Technology Press Bureau in London. The next issue will be in early September 2006. Have a good summer.

Philip Jolly, Managing Director of FTPB
